Autumn Leaves, Gilles Peterson and Going Inside...

I went outside. The Sun is still warm.
Under the rich trees, a couple of apples were waiting for me.

Thank You!
Apples in the pocket. The Sun is still warm.

Tomatoes and hot peppers keep shining in the afternoon light.
A cold wind is blowing. The first autumn leaves gonna fall soon, uh?
And I'll see all their colors.
Elm trees. With their fire...red and  flamboyant yellow.
Just like the Indiana Summer.
Keep going. Time to get those potatoes from down there.
And prepare for the Autumn is coming.
Going inside.

Neo-Realismo 2.0: Ciné Institute (Haiti) @Williamsburg International Film Festival (Brooklyn, N.Y.C.)

Education in the 21st century means Video and Video-production.
Ok, this is true for rich and "developed" countries, but what about the "left-behind" countries?
I wonder if *Filming* is likely to be a powerful tool of development in the (euphemistically called)  "Least Developed Countries (LDCs)"- namely countries with:

Do you think you wanna teach Photoshop, Final Cut Pro and sound recording to poor and illiterate kids?Do you think it is possible to create job opportunities, generate wealth, re-contextualize culture and tradition...one movie at a time?
The Ciné Institute folks, accepted this 21st century challenge. They firmly believe that:

"Haiti, and most Haitians, have been left behind. The country’s infrastructure is primitive and poorly maintained, there are few local industries and the country depends almost entirely on the importation of goods and foreign aid. Film, and the training required to make films, can offer Haitians access to the 21st century means of production, by providing entry to a universe of educational, technological and economic opportunities. Film and filmmaking breaks isolation, expands horizons, creates new skills and provides a voice to the previously unheard."

In a certain way, this is what happened to my country, Italy, wrecked by World War II:  talented artists-skilled craftsmen with no money, started telling the stories of their own lives. Their daily life of poverty and desperation. Story-telling for the post-war global world. In this way, the Neo Realismo (Italian neo-realism) was born. In this way, the Cinecittà Studios produced award-winning masterpieces by legendary Vittorio De Sica, Federico Fellini, Roberto Rossellini, Luchino Visconti, Cesare Zavattini. Below, you can watch the trailer of world-famous movie Ladri di Biciclette (Bicycle Tieves) by De Sica & Zavattini.

Today, once again, talented artists-skilled craftsmen with no money, start telling  the stories of their own lives and culture. Again, a Neo-Realismo-like mechanism is triggering the world success of Bollywood (India) and Nollywood (Nigeria) filming industries. Leveraging creative techs, this can be the very beginning of what we may call "Neo-Realismo 2.0"... feel me?
With direct/indirect effects on Italy and other "developed" countries, uh?

So I am saying "Go Haiti, Go!"

Princess Hijab: French Guerrilla Artist of Anti-Advertisement

La Métropolitain.  A sub-terranean labyrinth of solitary people.
La Métropolitain. Paris Sub-Conscious Realm, ruled by an anonymous graffiti artist:  Princess Hijab (PH).
Just like one of Stan Lee's Super-Heroine, she is concealing her secret identity in a distinctive costume:  a colorful djellaba covering her body. Its hood hiding her face. Long black gloves with acid green fingernails. Holding a black ink marker. Ready to go.
Her Mission? Hijabize Advertisement, namely, paint Niqabs and Burqas on the glamorous faces of advertisements characters. DOLCE & GABBANA men. L' OREAL Kate Moss. No one is spared! But why did she choose the Veil?

Actually, PH de-contextualizes  Niqabs and Burqas form their religious and gender-related environment, trasforming them into means of protest against consumerism. Makes me think about the work done by the Canadian culture jammers known as AdBusters, when they say:
"Consumerism is the new patriarchy. The beauty industry is the beast. Advertising constrains the horizon of female aspirations, gendering their dreams before they’re hatched. Girls, even when they are still a fetus in the womb, are the target of an unrelenting image assault. Pretty little girls is what this society wants and it gets it through a flood of erotically charged marketing that propagandizes half the population, and their parents, to sexualize femininity at an early age. Of course, boys get the message too. But their assigned role is as the aggressor party. Girls, on the other hand, are told that weak and vulnerable is sexy."
Thus, I guess the point is the following: stop being a passive consumer of lifestyles and identities. Men and Women Out There. Start looking inside Your-Self. Find your identity.
Know Thy-Self!
Again, But why did she choose the Veil?

“Guerrilla art is innocent and criminal, ancient and dystopian, intimate and political. I chose the veil because it does what art should do: It challenges, it frightens, and it re-imagines,” PH answered in a recent interview to THE INDEPENDENT

Naturally, PH disruptive visual language is challenging the status quo.
Actually, Guerrilla Art is about shock and awe, uh?

“Some say I am pro-feminist, some say I am antifeminist; some say I am pro-Islam, others that I am anti-Islam. It’s all very interesting—but at the end of the day, I am above all an artist.”- she stated ( interview )

GLOBAL GHETTO-TECH-->FREE Download ORU (Nigerian Kuduro) by BLND!--> Learn the Truth about the ORU Refugee Camp in Lagos, Nigeria

Music is the weapon  music is the weapon of the future.”
Fela Anikulapo Kuti

Yes, indeed. Music is the Weapon and the Healing Power of the Future.
And the Hi-NRG uptempo beats of Kuduro music seem to be the right tool for the job.
According to Ghetto-Tech ambassador M.I.A., Kuduro "initially came from kids not having anything to make music on other than cellphones, using samples they'd get from their PCs and mobiles' sound buttons,' it's a rave-y, beat oriented sound. Now that it's growing, they've got proper PCs to make music on."
Further Readings: If you wanna know more on the subject, I suggest you this article, clearly explaining
WHAT IN THE WORLD IS GLOBAL GHETTO-TECH?

And now, let's go back to the main subject...
Imagine a refugee camp in Lagos, Nigeria. The Oru Refugee Camp is " providing temporary shelter for scores of Liberians and Sierra Leoneans in the heat of fierce wars that ravaged the countries some few years ago. "
The Oru Refugee Camp is operated by United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR)...

Now, stop imaging, because 3000 people are still in  there even after its "technical" closure in 2007, with
no support from UNHCR, ICRC, Nigerian Government and NGOs.
This is why BLND! wants you to Listen, Learn,FREE Download and SHARE this phat track of Nigerian Kuduro called "Oru".

Sarkozy, Burqa and The Bristol Vandal of Street Art

Nick Walker “Le Coran-can” Quai De Valmy, Paris 2010. Source: http://web.mac.com/nickwalkerz/Nick_Walker_Art/Gallery.html#3

Street Art is a(bout) controversial issue(s). If you want simple and meaningful examples, check out the seminal works by Banksy and Shepard Fairey. Having said that, the name of the piece you see in the picture above is "Le Coran-can" by Nick Walker. This time the punchy stencils of "Bristol Vandal"  are timely adressing the "tittle-tattle" or, if you want, the "scandal" - i.e. the Can-Can - triggered by Sarkozy’s decision to prohibit the wearing of the Burqa and Niqab in France. This is a controversial issue which is triggering a public debate in the global sphere: France, Europe, The World. In the same way, Walker targeted Pope Benedict XVI four-day visit to UK,  bedeviled by years of Catholic church sex scandals. See the piece below: "Cardinal Sinister". Whatever your opinion, it seems that Street Art strikes again, uh?

I-House U: 340, Limestone Street.

"I used to write" - he was singing out loud.
Years passed. Memories are still.There.
"340, Limestone Street. Yeah take me there." - I mechanically whispered with a deep impersonal voice, while jumping in the sub-conscious yellow cab.
Mind travels in space and time. Easy. You know that, uh?
"My name is Chrome" - the driver told me.
I tilted my head to the side. Started day-dreaming.
Wanna go back to good ol' I-House and its native people.
Remembering people, papers, places...
My stream of consciousness was suddendly interrupted by a flock of birds flying through my field of vision. Just like a cluster of genetic algorithms moving on multiple windows.
"That's HTML 5 canvas, man!"- the taxi driver told me, smiling.
"W-what?" - I shivered.- " Birds going to the I-House through HTML5 canvas???"
"Now our lives are changing fast" - he kept singing, while drumming on the steering wheel. Then he stopped the car.
Chrome smiled and said "when they ask you to
'Enter the address of the home where you grew up'
just remember '340, Limestone Street.'

Exiting the car, I found My-Self... There.

ARS ELECTRONICA 2010: Repair Your-Self!

This is the Age of Darkness, the Kali Yuga (कलियुग).

Discord, Hate, Violence, Injustice,Falsehood,Oppression, Crime, Greedy-ness...

OK, I understand. So, what am I supposed to do?passively wait the Divine Intervention while keep complaining about the state of the world?

No.

I choose to discover the Divinity I Am.
I choose to change the Reality that surrounds me. How?
So Simple. I just gotta change My-Self.That's all.(ha!)
I would say, changing the planet, one person at a time. Do you like that?

Kali Yuga is the Age of Darkness, indeed.
But, wait a moment...it is easier to see the LIGHT when we are in full Darkness, uh?
Hence, Kali Yuga is the very moment to discover Your-Self.
The easiest moment in the whole history of humankind, feel me?

Are you ready to grab this once-in-a-lifetime chance?
Are you ready to repair? Are you ready to pull the lifeline?

The ARS ELECTRONICA FESTIVAL is a pretty good starting point, uh?

Program Your-Self:

if
[repair] -->[restore]-->[rectify] -->[re-set]-->[renew]-->[re-generate]
[repair] -->[restore]-->[rectify] -->[re-set]-->[renew]-->[re-generate]
[repair] -->[restore]-->[rectify] -->[re-set]-->[renew]-->[re-generate]
then
[re-generate] -->[change]-->[change] -->[change]-->[change]-->[Your-Self]

if you need technical support, then jump right into Your-Self.
Lemme Know How's Going...
